The standard strainers from Europa can best be described
as bolt catchers. I wanted to have better initial strainers and decided
to have some made similar to Graham Singleton's design which
incorporates a water / fuel drain.
Tony did all the hard work on these machining
out the alloy bosses which have 3 off 1/4" NPT female holes. One off the
holes is plugged off and could be used for a level tube. The other is
the main fuel feed port to the Andair selector. The end tapped hole has
an elbow screwed in to it which has a 1/4" stainless tube bonded in to
the end of it. This tube is supported at the end by an aluminium fitting
that closes of the filter screen. The 1/4" tube is then bent down and
angled off so that it sits parallel with the floor of the tank and about
3mm above the base of the tank. The strainer has been manufactured out
of 316ss 40 mesh gauze.
